GoFundMe Doughnates & Coffee: Tesla Gigafactory New York
No, that’s not a spelling error of donuts or doughnuts… well, it is… let me explain. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit Gigafactory New York, or as some of the workers there refer to it, GFNY. Club President, Patrick Ho and Niagara Frontier Chapter Leader, John P. Weiksnar joined me for a very memorable experience that Saturday afternoon. That one event led to many positive outcomes, but one in particular that I am very thankful for, the creation of a campaign for Tesla employees who will be constructing the ventilators in aiding the COVID-19 efforts.
While we sadly didn’t have the opportunity to enter the factory for a tour, or sit down and talk with Elon Musk, we were able to geek-out from a safe and appropriate distance outside. It was shortly after our visit to the factory that John proposed a fantastic idea to me, something along the lines of a positive motion for the workers at the factory to show our appreciation for them and everything that they do to further the mission of Tesla. After some more communication that afternoon, and with the efforts of club member Brian Swails, we put together a solid plan.
While I am writing this blog, we have reached ~82% of the campaign goal! I am so thankful to each and everyone of you who have contributed and helped spread the word about the campaign and the progress that has been made. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to contribute to the campaign, feel free to donate whatever amount you personally feel comfortable with. Truly any amount is appreciated if you can donate, it would also be especially helpful if you can spread the word about the campaign through social media. Thank you.
