Ice Cream, Sans ICE

We made the best of some windy weather to hold the second annual TOCNYS Finger Lakes region + Niagara Frontier region at Dave's Ice Cream in Batavia.

Eleven members, nine guests and two pups joined us, though we missed our Finger Lakes Regional Organizer Rick Cognata and his wife Suzanne who were unable to attend.

The 6 p.m. event started with a comical twist when a couple in a pickup truck noticed my hood was wide open and asked if I needed help. My response was something like, "Probably . . . but the car's just fine." Score one for teaching the public that there's no engine in the frunk.

This had to be one of the most social gatherings in a while—with the mask mandate lifted, we saw more smiles than ever. Conversations went on and on, and that included several new members (we had two Model Y owners present).

One of our couples traveled all the way in from Cortland. Peter and Susan Grimm in their Performance Model S, invited everyone to pay a visit to the Central NY Living History Center, where you'll see a permanent and rotating collection of antique Brockway Trucks, native to Cortland; the Homeville Museum ofAmerican and local military and railroad history collections from the Civil War era to the present; and Tractors of Yesteryear—antique collections of tractors from the Central NY Tractor Club and antique agricultural equipment.

We also welcomed a pair of Batavia locals, Dr. Bernie Asher and Chris and Diane Deleo and sons. With their silver unicorn Model 3, we showed off a wide array of models and colors for other locals to see . . . including one blue Model 3 that waved to us on their way by, but didn't take our cue to join in. Maybe next year.
