With FSD Beta on the verge of being pushed to all customers who purchased it, Elon Musk made an interesting comment this week, claiming
“Beta button will request permission to assess driving behavior using Tesla insurance calculator. If driving behavior is good for 7 days, beta access will be granted.”
This will hopefully allow Tesla to make sure that only responsible owners will receive the software, and will likely result in less people using the system irresponsibly. It will also be a good way to test their new insurance calculator, and see how good it is at actually determining whether or not someone is a safe and responsible driver. While this seems like an all around good idea, it is inevitable that some owners who paid $10,000 for FSD when they bought their car will be denied the software, and their frustration would be understandable.
As of September 17th, Tesla has ended their referral program for all products other than solar. In the early days of Tesla, the referral program was pretty big, offering free lifetime supercharging to all referred. With Tesla not spending on any sort of marketing, the referral program was their best way to attract new customers, as those who owned and loved their Teslas could get rewards for referring someone who buys a car. The main reason behind the end of the referral program is likely that they are getting so many new customers that it does not make sense to continue to have the program in place when Tesla is securing new customers without it.
