This Week in Tesla: Austin Texas Gigafactory to be Completed in May 2021, VW CEO Calls Model Y a “Reference Car”

Austin Texas Gigafactory to be Completed in May 2021 -

Tesla has been massively expanding their global presence recently, building factories from Shanghai to Germany and the most recent expansion is a factory that is being built in Austin, Texas. Construction has been ongoing for two months now and Tesla just announced that the target date for completion is by May 2021. Although this may seem very fast to build a full fledged car factory, Tesla has shown that they can have a factory built very quickly when they built their Shanghai factory in only 168 days. Although it is still unclear which Tesla models will be built in Texas, Tesla has stated intent to build the Cybertruck there.

Volkswagen CEO Calls Model Y a “Reference Car” -

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk recently visited Germany and was given the opportunity by Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess to drive VW’s new EV, the ID.3. Of course, Elon had to reciprocate the offer and let Diess drive the Model Y. Creating the ID.3 has been everything but a seamless process for VW. The car’s release had to be delayed for a year due to production issues, proving Tesla is not the only company that has missed a deadline. It is very reasonable that Diess would praise the Tesla as they are unarguably on top of the sector as 78% of all EV’s sold worldwide last year were made by Tesla.
