This Week in Tesla - Model Y Tested in Snow, New Tesla Wall Connector Launched

Tesla Launches New Wall Connector With WiFi Connectivity

Tesla has recently launched the next iteration of it’s very popular Wall Connector which will now feature the following features:

  • Up to 44 miles of range per hour of charge
  • Compatible with Model S, Model X, and Model 3
  • Up to 11.5 kW / 48 amp output
  • Customizable power levels on a range of circuit breakers
  • Compatible with any home electrical system
  • Wi-Fi connectivity (2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n)
  • Approved for indoor and outdoor installation
  • Lightweight 18’ cable length
  • Tempered white glass faceplate

These features which are mostly the same as the older version will add more to the destination charging network rather than the personal, home charging that many use these connectors for. At $500 the Tesla Wall Connector has always been a proposition of great value for one looking to have a dedicated charging solution for their Tesla, as all other chargers offering similar specs cost much more. Most other specs are the same as the older version, however the main difference is the connector’s new ability to connect to Wifi. This is a significant change for destination chargers as the most probable application of this would be to give owners looking for a place to charge the ability to see if a destination charger is in service and unoccupied.

Model Y Spied Testing in Minnesota Snow

Last weekend, two Model Y prototypes were spotted testing in Minnesota and the conditions were very cold and much like those seen here in the Northeast. It is a great sign to see that Tesla is thoroughly testing their upcoming vehicles in wintry conditions as there have been problems with the Model S and X as far as dealing with snowy conditions goes. Model Y production is very close to beginning and everyone should be very excited to see how the new vehicle disrupts the biggest car segment in the world.
