This Week in Tesla: Roadster 0-60 Time Updated, Model S Plaid Event in June

Roadster 0-60 Time Updated -

In anticipation of its release, a prototype Tesla Roadster has been loaned to the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. A recent tweet by Tesla CEO Elon Musk proves that the prototype version of the Roadster is not what the final production version will look like. Also, there is a plaque in front of the Roadster reading:

“Demonstrating the versatility of electric power and adding extra distinction to the car’s already high performance, an announced SpaceX package would outfit the Roadster with cold air rocket thrusters positioned at the rear, allowing for a 0-to-60-mph acceleration time of 1.1 seconds – largely unprecedented among modern road cars.”

If the production Roadster can actually achieve a 0-60 time of 1.1 seconds that would be preposterous; for reference, no production car has cracked the two second mark. For the Roadster to approach one second, it would be something almost non-replicable by other automakers who do not have access to cold air rocket thrusters.

Model S Plaid Event in June -

This week, Elon Musk announced that the Tesla Model S Plaid delivery event will be held on June 3rd at Tesla’s Fremont California factory. It is believed that this event will bring more clarity to some of the features that were originally announced as coming to the refreshed Model S & X. For example, when the S & X refresh was originally unveiled, it was shown to have a yoke steering wheel, yet some prototypes were spotted in the wild with a traditional, round steering wheel.

The Model S refresh was originally planned to enter production in April or May, due to the global semiconductor shortage and Tesla needing to ensure that the new battery pack is safe, production was delayed. Hopefully there is also some information released on if any changes were made to the Model X, but we will see on June 3rd.
