For a while now there have been rumors of a refresh for Model S & X, as there has not been a design refresh on either car for a couple of years. It was recently reported that Tesla is currently making an effort to liquidate all existing Model S & X inventory before the end of the month. This, in combination with a shutdown of S & X production lines lead to speculation that the refresh is imminent. Also, the delivery estimates on Tesla’s website for the Model S & X say 6-11 weeks, far longer than typical. If Tesla is in fact refreshing the S & X it is likely that we will find out soon because the production lines have already been shut down for a couple weeks and they will want to resume deliveries of their flagship models in order to keep up with demand and sales projections.
Unlike their other vehicles, Tesla is only beginning Model Y deliveries in a specific market once the vehicle is being produced at a factory there. The Shanghai factory recently began producing Model Y’s, meaning that the Model Y will now be sold in China. Pricing will be similar to the current pricing in the US, but interestingly the Model Y performance is $5,000 cheaper in China than the US while the long range dual motor version is $3,000 more expensive than in the US.
